During the Prohibition era, the distillery's whisky was sold as medicine, which explains the appearance and design of the whiskies. In 1994, the distillery received a Royal Warrant from King Charles III. He greatly admired Laphroaig's smoky single malt whisky and regularly visited the distillery.
